KUALA LUMPUR – An innovation by a team of researchers from the Malaysian Nuclear Agency won the grand prize at the Seoul International Invention Fair (SIIF) 2020 held from December 1 to 4.

The team, comprising Sofian Ibrahim, Khairiah Badri, Chantara Thevy Ratnam and Noor Hasni Ali,  won the grand prize  through their invention called “Hybrid Radiation and Peroxide Prevulcanized Natural Rubber Latex”.

Malaysian Association of Research Scientists (MARS) president Dr Muhd Noor Muhd Yunus said besides the grand prize, Malaysia also won 19 gold, 11 silver and eight bronze medals at the fair through innovations by researchers  from Sirim Bhd, Universiti Tenaga Nasional, Universiti Malaysia Perlis, Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Universiti Kuala Lumpur and University College Sedaya International.

Despite the world is still struggling with the Covid-19 pandemic, he said researchers in the country are still actively producing various innovations for universal benefit.

“It is no surprise that the Korean Invention Promotion Association (KIPA) still appoints MARS as the only association given the trust to bring innovations from Malaysia to compete in SIIF every year,” he said in a statement today.

He said innovations that were entered for the contest went through strict screenings, as had previously won awards and top prizes in local competitions. – Bernama, December 6, 2020
