KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Tan Sri Azam Baki has confirmed that Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will be charged in court tomorrow, according to Bernama.

“Tomorrow he is expected to be charged,” said Azam briefly when contacted by the news agency.

MACC is said to be issuing a statement on Muhyiddin later.

The Pagoh MP and former prime minister was summoned to the agency’s headquarters in Putrajaya this morning and is expected to be charged in relation to the Jana Wibawa stimulus initiative, as well as the government’s additional spending during the Covid-19 lockdown period when he was prime minister.

He would be the third Bersatu leader to be hauled up over the initiative, which he introduced while he was prime minister to help bumiputera contractors.

Tasek Gelugor MP and former Bersatu information chief Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan was charged with soliciting and receiving bribes worth RM6.9 million to help a private firm secure a central spine road government contract worth RM232 million in 2022.

He and Segambut Bersatu deputy chief Adam Radlan Adam Muhammad were the first two people charged with corruption involving Jana Wibawa.

Earlier today, current Bersatu information chief Datuk Razali Idris told reporters outside MACC that the party expected Muhyiddin to be arrested today and charged in court tomorrow.

A crowd of Bersatu leaders and supporters were also present this morning to show their support for Muhyiddin and alleged that his arrest and impending charges are selective prosecution aimed at derailing the party and PN’s campaign in the coming state elections. – The Vibes, March 9, 2023
