KUALA LUMPUR – The KL International Airport (KLIA) has dropped five spots in the list of Skytrax’s World’s Top 100 Airports for 2023.

Malaysia’s main international entry point in Sepang was placed 67 this year from 62 last year, while Singapore’s Changi Airport rose to the top spot from third placing last year, Skytrax’s list said.

According to its site, the ranking is based on votes by air travellers in Skytrax’s World Airport Survey.

In November, KLIA was announced as having retained its position as one of the world’s best airports based on a perfect score of 5.00 in the Airport Service Quality survey for the third quarter of 2022.

This survey, conducted by the Airports Council International also placed KLIA as among the world’s best airports for Q2 last year.

Skytrax, meanwhile, is a London-based international air transport rating organisation.

KLIA of late has been beset with problems involving its Aerotrain that transported passengers between the main terminal and satellite terminal buildings.

A replacement of the aerotrain system, which had been in use for 23 years, was announced in December.

Earlier this month, aerotrain operations were suspended indefinitely after the system broke down midway while transporting passengers, causing them to alight in between the terminal buildings and continue on foot. – The Vibes, March 16, 2023
