KUALA LUMPUR – A local 34-year-old man has been arrested by the Dang Wangi district police to assist in investigations of a fire that broke out near the Suria KLCC shopping centre.

Dang Wangi district police chief Noor Dellhan Yahaya said the headquarters’ Criminal Investigation Division had opened an investigation paper regarding the fire incident, under Section 435 of the Penal Code.

He said police arrested the man within a few hours after the fire, and have obtained a remand order for six days starting today until April 19.

Police have also confiscated a Honda RS-model motorcycle, a set of motorcycle keys, one helmet, a shirt, a pair of pants, a pair of gloves, a bag, a wristwatch, and a lighter.

“Initial investigations found the incident involved 13 motorcycles and four electric scooters, which the fire was successfully extinguished by the Fire and Rescue Department,” Dellhan said in a statement.

Dellhan said they are still investigating the motive and cause behind the fire, and have received 10 reports on the incident.

Yesterday, a fire broke out near the Suria KLCC shopping centre, involving a number of motorcycles and e-scooters.

The e-scooter company, Beam Mobility, denied that its products could cause the fire.

It said the e-scooters’ body hardware is of high-grade quality using aircraft-grade aluminium to ensure durability while the batteries were installed according to international safety certifications. – The Vibes, April 14, 2023
