KUALA LUMPUR – The federal government’s series of Hari Raya Aidilfitri open houses in six states facing elections soon will be held throughout the months of April and May.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the ministers of the unity government are expected to attend the open houses in Kedah, Penang, Negri Sembilan, Kelantan, Terengganu and Selangor.

A press statement from the Communications and Digital Ministry on the events said the first open house will be held on April 29 at Hotel Raia in Alor Star, Kedah, from 10am to 2pm.

In Penang, the government’s open house will be held in UiTM Permatang Pauh on May 6 from 11am to 2pm.

The next open house will be held in Dewan Majlis Bandaraya Seremban, Negri Sembilan from 11am to 2pm on May 7.

The tour will then move to Kelantan on May 12, at Perkarangan Stadium Sultan Muhammad Ke-IV, Bandar Kota Baru from 7pm to 10.30pm.

Terengganu will be next on May 13 at Dewan Al-Muktafi Billah Shah in Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin from 7pm to 10.30pm.

The last open house will be in Selangor on May 14 at Kawasan Komersial Fasa 3, Batu Caves from 8pm to 11pm.

Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil said in the statement that all Malaysians are invited to the open houses.

The six states are due to hold elections before September as they did not dissolve their assemblies simultaneously with Parliament for the general election last November.

Critics have accused Anwar of using the Hari Raya open houses in the states as a form of election campaigning but the prime minister has denied such intentions. – The Vibes, April 23, 2023
