KUALA LUMPUR – With the Bukit Jalil National Stadium available until December this year, could there be an additional show for Coldplay fans?

Speaking to The Vibes, Malaysian Stadium Corp chief executive Faidz Sanusi hinted that the Bukit Jalil national stadium is available for a second Coldplay concert since the venue has no bookings until December.

“We have no bookings after the Coldplay concert. The next booking is for the Malaysia Cup in December,” he said.

Coldplay is scheduled to play in Malaysia as part of their Music of Spheres World Tour at Bukit Jalil National Stadium on November 22.

On Tuesday, over 400,000 fans queued online as organisers held a presale for CIMB card holders. This set a record for the highest number of people vying for tickets simultaneously.

Thousands of fans were left disappointed when tickets were sold out within hours of sale, and the situation became worse when scalpers started selling their seats on social media and reselling platforms such as Viagogo.

However, with the venue available until December, there is a possibility that fans could get their wish to watch their favourite band perform in an additional show since Malaysia is the last stop for the British rock band.

If Coldplay performs an additional show in Malaysia, it won’t be the first as the rock band has confirmed back-to-back concerts in Taiwan on November 11 and 12 and in Perth, Australia on November 18 and 19 due to the high demand.

When The Vibes contacted a Coldplay fan, Jules Perreira, who missed the opportunity to watch his favourite band, he said that it is only right for the organisers to have a second show.

“There are fans like me who have followed their career since they were opening for Travis at PWTC and had one hit under their belt till they were selling out football stadiums around the world. Therefore, I think it is only right for Coldplay to initiate a second show at Bukit Jalil Stadium.

“There are thousands of ‘real’ fans here who missed out on getting tickets for the concerts, no thanks to the scalpers. The band needs to do right by the people that made them who they are today,” said the 40-year-old PR practitioner who has been following Coldplay for 23 years.

Meanwhile, checks by The Vibes on Viagogo at 11.02pm last night found 574 tickets available for purchase.

In fact, tickets for the CAT6 category, which went on sale on Live Nation Malaysia’s platform for RM398, were being resold on Viagogo for a whopping RM1,750.

On its Twitter page, after announcing that the concert had sold out, Live Nation Malaysia received a slew of complaints from netizens over the poor functioning of their ticketing purchasing platform.

However, moments later, netizens took it upon themselves to ask for an additional show by Coldplay.

They started a petition for the British rock band to perform another night. The petition on petitions.net has already garnered 11,851 signatures as of 11.47pm last night. – The Vibes, May 19, 2023
