KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia today recorded 2,234 coronavirus cases, its highest-ever daily toll, and three deaths, reported the Health Ministry.
This takes the national Covid-19 tally to 78,499, of which 11,867 are active cases, with overall fatalities now at 396.
Five of the fresh cases were imported.
Another 1,112 recoveries were registered, taking the total to 66,236.
There are 124 patients in intensive care, of whom 60 are on ventilators.
Selangor recorded the most fresh infections at 1,428, of which 842 are in the new Seruling cluster, while another 315 are in the Hentian cluster.
“Cases in Selangor are expected to remain high, following the expansion of the Social Security Organisation’s Targeted Covid-19 Screening Programme for Foreign Workers and proactive measures undertaken by employers in the Klang Valley,” said the ministry in a statement.
“Contact tracing and case detection are being conducted actively, with cases placed at the low-risk quarantine and treatment centre at MAEPS (Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang) 2.0, and Sg Buloh Hospital.”
Sabah has the second-highest number of new cases at 276, followed by Kuala Lumpur (136) and Perak (115). – The Vibes, December 10, 2020
