KUALA LUMPUR – Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s Pejuang yesterday filed a judicial review against the Registrar of Societies over the registration of the party.
The party is seeking a mandamus order from the Kuala Lumpur High Court to either approve or reject the party’s application to register as a political party under the Societies Act 1966.
In yesterday’s statement released by Pejuang pro-tem committee secretary-general Datuk Amiruddin Hamzah, the party, via the review, seeks a declaration from the court that RoS and its directior-general failed to respond to any application or written communication.
He added that this was unreasonable and ill-intentioned, and is meant to delay the party’s registration.
On October 30, the RoS had in a statement said Pejuang’s application was incomplete.
It said the party had been informed of the need to ensure its application contained all the necessary information before any consideration for approval is given.
“Pejuang’s pro-tem committee is reminded to contact the RoS directly to settle any issues pertaining to the application.”
Amiruddin had said the application was submitted on August 19.
He had added that Pejuang has, to date, submitted seven applications, none of which had received a response, and that there was no indication an approval would be given anytime soon.
Until Pejuang is registered under the Societies Act 1966, it will not be allowed to use its logo or symbol, said the RoS. – The Vibes, December 11, 2020
