Five Faiz Tanah Merah gang members claim trial to motorcycle theft

MELAKA – Five Faiz Tanah Merah gang members involved in various offences, including robbery, motorcycle theft, obstructing civil servants from discharging their duties, and drug abuse were charged at the Ayer Keroh court here today.

Muhamad Faiz Anuar, 26, Mohd Amiruddin Mohd Jazaly, 32, Bong Hang Hun, 41, Muhamad Muqri Mohd Azuan, 20, and a 14-year-old boy pleaded not guilty to charges of motorcycle theft, concealing, owning, disposing, and selling motorcycle components of various models. 

The charges against the five were read separately in front of judge Mohd Sabri Ismail, magistrate Mazana Sinin, and judge Darmafikri Abu Adam.

They are accused of committing the offences at several locations around Cheng and Paya Rumput in the Melaka Tengah district between March and May this year.

Faiz and the 14-year-old were charged in front of Sabri with robbing a man of his Yamaha LC135SE on March 24 at the side of KP22 Krubong Perdana here around 8.15am. 

If convicted, they face up to 20 years in prison with caning under Section 395 of the Penal Code. 

Amiruddin was charged in front of Mazana with obstructing a policeman carrying out a patrol by evading inspection at the roadside of Taman Paya Rumput Indah here on May 6 at around 5pm, and faces two years’ jail or a maximum fine of RM10,000, or both if found guilty.

He was also charged with possession of a stolen Yamaha 135SE with false registration plates and faces between six months to five years’ jail and a mandatory fine if convicted.

The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutors Puteri Nur Nadia Mohd Iqbal, J. Banusha, and N. Siva Shangari while all the accused were unrepresented.

The court ordered a total bail of RM62,500 for the accused and set July 13 for case mention. – Bernama, June 9, 2023
