PUTRAJAYA – The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry has seized 33,272 units of counterfeit perfumes worth RM1.7 million in raids on six premises in Jalan Chan Sow Lin here.
Its enforcement director, Datuk Iskandar Halim Sulaiman, said a 37-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman, who were packing the perfumes in branded boxes for distribution, were arrested in the operation on Tuesday.
The raids were conducted following two months of intelligence work, and the six premises were found to have been rented by an individual as a storage place for imitation perfume stocks of various brands.
“Based on the statement (of suspects), the counterfeit goods were obtained from China, and after the packaging process, they will be distributed to wholesalers around the Klang Valley or sold online,” Iskandar said in a statement here today.
He said the perfumes seized included imitations of popular brands, such as Burberry, Gucci, Victoria Secret, Tommy, DKNY, Jo Malone and Michael Kors, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 102 (1) (c) of the Trademarks Act 2019.
