KUALA LUMPUR – Perikatan Nasional’s Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor must show proof that non-Muslims are the biggest givers and takers of bribes, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke said.

Panning Sanusi’s remarks, Loke said the PAS politician had made an unfounded sweeping statement and created feelings of hatred among Malaysia’s races.

“We challenge Sanusi to present which report makes that conclusion? Where are the ‘facts’? Facts based on what research?

“If unable to provide evidence, Sanusi should apologise publicly,” said Loke in a statement this afternoon.

The DAP leader was responding to the Kedah Menteri Besar’s claims made on the Keluar Sekejap show hosted by sacked Umno leaders Khairy Jamaluddin and Shahril Sufian Hamdan.

Sanusi, who is PN and PAS elections director, said that non-Muslims are the ones who get arrested the most for giving and receiving bribes while defending PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang’s remarks last year that non-Malays and non-Muslims are “the roots of corruption”.

Sanusi said Hadi had to say that because DAP was the party pushing the narrative that Malay leaders are corrupt.

He insisted that it was true that non-Malays are on record as giving and receiving bribes the most.

Loke today said that “everyone involved in corruption is wrong regardless of their racial background”.

“Corruption cannot be attributed to any race at all. Wrong is still wrong, no matter who it is,” said the transport minister.

“Repeated statements like this prove that Perikatan Nasional is a destroyer of racial harmony in Malaysia and needs to be rejected by our pluralistic society for the sake of Malaysian unity,” he added. – The Vibes, July 12, 2023
