KUALA LUMPUR – Kedah caretaker menteri besar Kedah Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Noor was detained early this morning and has been brought to the Selayang sessions court to face charges under the Sedition Act.

The PAS politician arrived at 9am at the courthouse and will be represented by lawyer Datuk Shahruddin Ali.

A post on Sanusi’s Facebook page stated that he was arrested at a hotel room in Mont Kiara, here, at around 3am.

He was detained by police unit from Bukit Aman’s Classified Crime Investigation Unit and the D7 Gangsterism Prevention Unit. There were reportedly about 25 officers present during the process.

Sanusi, who is also Perikatan Nasional election director, was then taken to the Gombak district police headquarters.

He will be charged today for making a statement during a political ceramah that allegedly belittled the Selangor sultan’s appointment of Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari as Selangor menteri besar.

This morning, PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan in a statement urged for calm from party members and to respect the legal process.

Sanusi’s charge comes ahead of state elections for Kedah, which is among six states to go to the polls on August 12. Nomination day is on July 29.

Sanusi is also the incumbent Jeneri assemblyman. – The Vibes, July 18, 2023
