MIRI – A company supervisor allegedly lost RM980,000 after investing in a cryptocurrency trading scheme that had promised him up to 50% in dividends.
State police chief Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said the victim who is in his forties said he lost RM980,000 after investing in the cryptocurrency trading scheme following an offer from a WhatsApp contact to join the investment.
“The victim was lured into linking up with a social media platform on a website after being offered dividends between 20 to 50%.
“He said in his report that between last month and now, he had invested RM980,000 via bank transactions into 34 different bank accounts.
“He realised he had been scammed after getting nothing in return,” he said.
Azman again warned the public not to be easily taken in by so-called investments from unknown or unfamiliar sources.
Check thoroughly with the relevant government bodies or Bank Negara and the Securities Commission Malaysia before taking up any investment schemes, he said. – The Vibes, August 24, 2023
