JASIN – Police have detained an auxiliary policeman alleged to have accidentally discharged his pump gun, injuring two women and a security guard at a bank.

Jasin police chief Ahmad Jamil Radzi said the incident occurred at about 1pm yesterday.

“Based on initial investigations, there was negligence on the part of the auxiliary policeman in handling the gun.

“The 25-year-old security guard and two women, aged 28 and 46, were injured in the incident,” he said.

Fortunately, the victims only suffered minor injuries and were given immediate medical attention.

Jamil said the 59-year-old suspect had travelled to the bank with his management to collect money for staff payroll.

Police have since seized a Vinwinchester Model 1200 GA.2 3/4 Chamber Series L 1207477 rifle and a spent bullet casing.

The case is being investigated under Section 39 of the Arms Act 1960.

Meanwhile, Maybank issued a statement yesterday, assuring that such incidents will not happen again.

“The safety of our customers and staff is our top priority. We temporarily suspended branch banking facilities (except for ATMs) and will resume normal operations today,” read the statement. – The Vibes, September 6, 2023
