KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang today expressed his thanks and appreciation to Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah for the Perak ruler’s wisdom during the state’s menteri besar crisis.

The PAS president was granted an audience with the sultan at 11am today at Istana Kinta in Ipoh. The meeting lasted about an hour.

“His Honourable Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang has thanked His Royal Highness for the care and wisdom he has shown towards religious issues, political and economic stability, as well as the welfare and livelihood of the people,” said a statement issued by party secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan.

Hadi on December 10 sought an audience with Sultan Nazrin after the party chief instructed his Perak assemblymen to snub a royal decree two days earlier.

The reps were supposed to go to the palace to declare whether they supported Umno’s menteri besar candidate, Datuk Saarani Mohamad.

Hadi, who is also Marang MP, requested an audience after he realised that none of PAS’ three Perak assemblymen was made an exco.

Even though Saarani, sworn in as menteri besar last week, has the right to propose candidates for exco posts, it is the sultan who has final say on the appointments. – The Vibes, December 15, 2020
