MIRI - The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living busted an attempt to illegally store and sell government-subsidised diesel in the rural Sri Aman district in southern Sarawak, about 200 km north of Kuching.
The Sri Aman office head, Dorcas Sidi today said the raid was carried out yesterday in the district following intensive surveillance.
"Two local men have been arrested in the raid and we uncovered an illegal storage facility with 36,500 litres of diesel.
"We have seized pumps, oil tankers, lorries and 36 big storage tanks. The seizures are worth RM330,875," he said.
Checks found that the storage facility is illegal and the suspects have no licence to buy or store the diesel.
The ministry is probing the source and intended destination of the illegally acquired diesel.
On Aug 7, the Marine Police here also busted an attempt to smuggle 25,754 litres of government-subsidised diesel meant for the rural poor in the Igan interior district.
The marine police carried out a raid against two riverine cargo boats along Sungai Igan and found the fuel hidden inside the big boats, said Sibu district police chief Asst Comm Zulkipli Suhaili. - The Vibes, October 28, 2023
