THE prime minister’s revelation today in the Dewan Rakyat must be celebrated as yet another move in the right direction under his administration.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (Tambun-PH) had announced that 60 mega companies, including multinational corporations, have been asked to assist in initiatives to help the poor.

While we must commend several organisations in the private sector for stepping forward in response to Anwar’s invitation to play a significant role in nation-building, the very idea to get them to provide financial support directly to their respective adopted TVET centres providing skills training to poor youth is admirable.

Previous governments, particularly leaders of political parties, would have subscribed to political funding while brokers made a killing on the grapevine.

This is where Anwar’s unity government scored big: by ensuring that the rich, fortunate and successful have a direct role in elevating the poor and less fortunate.

His determined efforts to get successful corporations to have a positive role teaching marginalised citizens to fish rather than simply giving them handouts is a remarkable feat that must be welcomed by all.

Once again, we witness yet another milestone in our society’s reformation. Surely naysayers and biased critics will have to swallow their egos and bite the bullet of truth.

Hopefully, and, God-willing, more pioneering steps will be taken by the new leadership despite the ugly, desperate ploys to discredit this one-time, cruelly punished prisoner-turned-PM.

This new initiative by Anwar Ibrahim must also set the tone to all government-linked companies and government-linked investment companies.

Returning Malaysia’s wealth to all its citizens is the way forward in building a greater nation. – The Vibes, March 21, 2023
