Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz is tipped to become the next president of the BA of Malaysia (BAM).

BAM interim president Datuk V. Subramaniam announced that Tengku Zafrul was nominated for the top post.

This follows the BAM council meeting in Bukit Kiara.

According to reports, the national body's annual general meeting-cum-elections have been tentatively set for May 10.

"The majority of the council have expressed their support for Tengku Zafrul to become the next president.

"Tengku Zafrul has been informed and he has agreed to being nominated," said Subramaniam.

Tengku Zafrul will likely step down as a minister when his senatorship expires later this year. Ministers are prohibited from holding posts in national sports associations.

Tengku Zafrul has been linked to the BAM top post since former president Tan Sri Norza Zakaria announced his plans to step down in 2023.

He was set to take over the reins early last year, but Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh had persuaded Norza to continue until the Paris Olympics. - March 25, 2025
