THE organisation of the 2026 Malaysia Games (Sukma) by Selangor will continue after it received the consent of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

Sukma Selangor will be held from 15 to 24 August with cost-saving and prudent spending measures, following an audience with  Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, last Thursday to discuss the matter.

Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari, expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the consent of the Sultan of Selangor and thanked the Prime Minister, who placed the interests of the country's young athletes as a priority when deciding that Sukma 2026 should continue.

"I am very grateful for the consent of His Majesty the Sultan of Selangor following the initiative by the Prime Minister, especially the concern for young athletes who deserve to continue to be allowed to compete at the highest level," he said.

He added that Sukma 2026 is among the selection and preparation fields for young athletes to bring the country's challenge to the SEA Games to be held in Malaysia next year.

He added that the secretariat will present the latest update on preparations, especially the cost-saving measures aligned with the Sultan's consent, at a special supreme committee meeting this Thursday.

Taufiq further said that any additional information regarding the Games would be announced after this special meeting. - April 26, 2026
