PUTRAJAYA – Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) president Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin is set on clearing the air this Friday on Harimau Malaya’s lacklustre performance in the AFF Suzuki Cup.
Speaking to the press during the ground-breaking ceremony at FAM’s new headquarters at Presint 5 here today, Hamidin said he will be addressing questions surrounding Harimau Malaya and all related matters.
“I am going to give a press conference this Friday and I will answer all questions that are related to the national football team,” he said.
Following Malaysia’s failed attempt to qualify for the knockout stages of the AFF Suzuki Cup in Singapore, Tan Cheng Hoe has resigned as Harimau Malaya coach.
Meanwhile, there have been calls by netizens and fans for Hamidin to step down as FAM president, claiming loss of confidence in his leadership of the association.
Hamidin reiterated that he is not running away from media questions on the matter.
“Netizens have their own opinion, that’s okay. I am ready to answer all your questions this Friday.
“I am not running away. I just came back from overseas to attend to family matters and my quarantine period just ended yesterday,” he said.
Earlier this month, FAM set up an independent investigation body comprising individuals outside of the association to lead the post-mortem on Harimau Malaya’s performance in the AFF Suzuki Cup.
Former national player Datuk Dell Akbar Khan had been appointed to lead the independent investigation body.
Dell Akbar, also a former Kuala Lumpur police chief, has been mandated to appoint several other individuals as members of the independent inquiry body.
He will be presenting the results of the post-mortem, which will also include improvement measures, to the FAM National Team Management Committee for discussion. – The Vibes, January 17, 2022
