KUALA LUMPUR – The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has set up an independent investigation body comprising individuals outside of the association to lead the post-mortem on Harimau Malaya’s performance at the AFF Suzuki Cup 2020 in Singapore, last month.
In a statement released today, FAM president Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin said the group has appointed former national player Datuk Dell Akbar Khan to lead the independent investigation body.
Dell Akbar, who was also a former Kuala Lumpur Police Chief, has been mandated to appoint several other individuals as members of the independent inquiry body.
The individuals will comprise those who have held positions in football including former players and coaches who do not hold any positions in, or are members of, any FAM committees at this time.
The independent body will conduct a preliminary post-mortem on the team’s performance and complete analysis of the team members, including the coaching staff and management officials.
Dell Akbar will present the results of the post-mortem, which will also include improvement measures, to the FAM National Team Management Committee for further discussion.
During the AFF Cup, Tan Cheng Hoe’s squad managed to record two early victories over Cambodia 3-1 and Laos 4-0, but lost the remaining two Group B matches to Vietnam 3-0 and Indonesia 4 -1, thus failing to advance to the semi-finals. – The Vibes, January 7, 2022
