KUALA LUMPUR – Asia’s premier cycling race, the Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL), will remain as ProSeries until 2025.
International Cycling Union (UCI) management committee member Datuk Amarjit Singh Gill said the board met recently and unanimously agreed to approve the application of the Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) to retain the LTdL as a ProSeries.
“During the meeting, I emphasised that LTdL is one of the long-standing tours in Asia and a prominent one too, in addition to being instrumental in the development of cycling in the region and world.
“Therefore, it is important that the ProSeries status is retained,” he said in a statement today.
Amarjit said the decision, made at the three-day meeting in Wollongong, Australia, which ended yesterday, was certainly great news for the Malaysian government, MNCF and local cycling fans.
MNCF had filed their application in July for the assessment by the UCI Road Department on the ProSeries status.
ProSeries, which was introduced in 2020 is the second-tier of men’s elite road cycling tour, just below the UCI World Tour.
The ProSeries status was awarded to LTdL for a three-year period from 2020-2022.
The races are re-evaluated in the third year for re-accreditation for the next three years.
This year’s LTdL will be held from October 11-18, with the confirmed participation of six World Tour teams, namely UAE Team Emirates, Lotto Soudal, Movistar, Cofidis, EF Education-Easypost and Astana Qazaqstan Team. – Bernama, September 22, 2022
