MIC's application to join the Perikatan Nasional (PN) was approved at a meeting last Saturday, bringing the number of parties in the coalition to five.

PN Secretary-General, Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, said he would present an official letter to MIC President, Tan Sri S A Vigneswaran, tonight regarding the party's entry.

"I have confirmed that I will meet with the MIC President tonight to present an official letter that they are accepted as a PN member party.

"MIC's entry has been approved since December last year, but at the PN meeting last Saturday, we officially confirmed the party's entry, making the party the fifth member party so far," he said as reported by Berita Harian.

Takiyuddin also informed that more than five other parties had also applied to join PN.

He said that the application saw the new PN leadership being more inclusive since the appointments given were comprehensive, involving various parties.

"If previously those holding positions were PAS and Bersatu, now it is comprehensive. Even MIC, which has just joined PN, may be given positions.

"Now, apart from being open to any party, we are also open to NGOs and associate members.

"In PN, there are three categories, namely member parties, affiliated members, which are NGOs or parties that are friendly to PN, and associate members consisting of individuals," he said, declining to name the five parties. – March 17, 2026
