KUALA LUMPUR – Women’s doubles coach Hoon Thien How National shuttler Pearly Tan has received the green light the return to court ahead of several upcoming European tournaments.

Thien How said Pearly has fully recovered from her injuries and will compete in the Denmark Open, French Open, and the Hylo Open in Germany.

“During our training sessions, she (Pearly) seems to be alright. She said she has made some adjustments and is back to normal now.

“So for the upcoming tournaments we just have to hope for the best because she has just recovered,” he said today when met at the Malaysia Badminton Academy (ABM).

However, Pearly and teammate Thinaah Muralitharan may skip the Hylo Open if they collect enough qualifying points to enter the BWF World Tour Finals in Guangzhou, China in December.

The 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games champions are currently 11th in the BWF World Tour rankings and will need to secure points in Denmark and France to move up the ranks and be among eight teams that qualify for the finals.

Pearly and Thinaah will have a tough start to their French Open as they meet Malaysia Open winners Apriyani Rahayu-Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti from Indonesia in the opening round.

Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) doubles coaching director Rexy Mainaky had previously given Pearly the all-clear to compete in the upcoming tournaments.

Pearly and Thinaah will need to keep their momentum up as Rexy has noted an intention to make the duo into a medal contender for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Pearly sustained a hamstring injury at the Japan Open earlier last month, forcing her to leave the tournament in tears.

The Denmark Open is scheduled to start on October 18 until 23, while the French Open will begin days after from October 25 to 30.

The Hylo Open in Germany is set to start from November 1 to 6, but if Pearly-Thinaah qualify for the BWF World Tour finals, they will skip Germany and prepare for Guangzhou from December 14 to 18. – The Vibes, October 11, 2022
