KUALA LUMPUR – The family of the late Petaling Jaya City FC (PJ City) defender Rajes Perumal will receive financial assistance from the Social Security Organisation (Socso), said chairman Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal.
Subahan said the loss of Rajes was devastating, as the late player leaves behind a wife and three children, with the youngest being 8 months old.
“As the chairman of Socso, I have sorted some help for his family. Within the next couple of days, we will be handing out some financial aid for the family.
“We are also looking to provide the family with a monthly income until a certain period,” he told The Vibes after a press conference at Bukit Jalil National Hockey Stadium.
Subahan, also PJ City president, said the club’s top management will also look into avenues to help Rajes’ family and ensure his children are taken care of.
“For the club, we are terribly sad to have heard the news this morning and will do whatever is needed to help the family.
Subahan said the passing of Rajes hits close to home as he knew the player before his stint at PJ City.
“I knew him well as he lived in Batu Caves and I’m from Selayang. I also knew him when I was with the Selangor Football Association as he was playing with PKNS during that time.
“He was such a disciplined player and a good, family-oriented man,” he added.
Subahan added that Rajes was part of the PJ City team that defeated Kuala Lumpur (KL) City FC 1-0 last Saturday and was already looking forward to their next match against Johor Darul Ta’zim in the Malaysia Cup.
Earlier, PJ City head coach P. Maniam said Rajes died due to head injuries following a motorcycle accident earlier this morning.
Rajes had previously played for the now-defunct PKNS FC from 2011 to 2013, with the team winning the Premier League in his first year there.
The right-back then moved to Selangor FC and Kedah Darul Aman FC – followed by a return to PKNS – before his current stint at PJ City. – The Vibes, October 18, 2022
