KUALA LUMPUR – With the 15th general elections looming, political parties are doing whatever they can to lure in votes for their victory. Some candidates also resort to getting celebrities and star athletes to help campaign for them.
However, it is not the same story with Perikatan Nasional’s Tambun candidate Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu as he is against inviting athletes or celebrities to campaign for him.
“It has never been my style to lure in votes through athletes and celebrities campaigning for me. Those who know me can tell you that.
“Why do I need to get athletes involved? I’ve never like the idea of mixing sports with politics,” he told The Vibes when contacted.
Faizal, who is the incumbent for Tambun, will lock horns with Pakatan’s juggernaut Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Barisan Nasional’s Aminuddin Md Hanafiah, and Abdul Rahim Tahir from Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA).
However, he added that he would not stop anyone from coming to Tambun to pay a courtesy visit to him.
“Everyone is welcome to come to Tambun to have a teh tarik session or enjoy a plate of the famous ‘nasi ganja’,” he said.
Meanwhile, Faizal believes that he has a good chance of retaining Tambun despite knowing that he will be going against a heavyweight like Anwar.
“People in Tambun know what I have done and that is important. I don’t have to go around telling what I have done for the people in my constituency.
At the same time, Faizal is not expecting any “drama” during tomorrow’s nomination as he added that his supporters would follow police orders.
“We will be good. We will celebrate democracy tomorrow,” he added. – The Vibes, November 4, 2022
