ISKANDAR PUTERI – The Johor government is planning to establish a motoring hub in the town of Ayer Hitam to revive motorsport activities in the area, said Johor Youth, Sports, Entrepreneur Development, Cooperatives and Human Resources Committee chairman Mohd Hairi Mad Shah (Larkin-BN).
Hairi said the hub will be built on seven acres of land owned by the Home Ministry under the administration of the land and mines director-general.
“Based on previous records, Ayer Hitam has hosted many motoring sporting events before it stopped around 2018 and 2019.
“Ayer Hitam used to host motoring cup prix, motocross, pocket bike, mountain bike, and at one point, drifting and go-cart events,” said Hairi during his Johor 2023 budget winding-up speech at the state assembly today.
He said that as Ayer Hitam is in central Johor, it is hoped that the proposed motoring hub expected to kick off in January will drive motorsports development in the state.
Meanwhile, Hairi said he will ensure that all sporting hubs in Johor Baru, especially in Larkin, will get a facelift.
This, he added, will be done under the supervision of Johor Stadium Corporation and the Johor Sports Council.
“I hope there will be more sporting facilities in all districts so they can be utilised by our athletes that cannot travel to Johor Baru.” – The Vibes, December 8, 2022
