KUALA LUMPUR – The national men’s sepak takraw team aims to recreate history and reclaim their gold medal at the upcoming 32nd SEA Games that will be held in Cambodia on May 5-17.
The last time Malaysia won a gold medal was at the 2017 edition held in Malaysia in the men’s regu category.
National athlete Shahir Rosdi said the team looks to be in their best form, especially with the incoming of a new national coach, Ahmad Jais Baharun, in February.
“We are doing our best to improve our discipline during training. We are also working to better our defence moves and keep squad morale high.
“With the help of the new coach, I hope we can get a gold medal for the country at the upcoming SEA Games, more so with the participation of Thailand,” said Shahir.
Jais said he is satisfied to see the overall commitment from the squad ahead of the biennial multi-sport event.
“So far, everything is going well. Every player is giving the team their best commitment.
“This gives the impression that they are ready to face the SEA Games,” he said.
Jais added that the squad will have a test match with a club from Thailand between April 10 to 15, in which he will finalise the list of players to represent Malaysia for the SEA Games after the match, including the women’s team. – The Vibes, March 15, 2023
