KUALA LUMPUR – Kelantan FC has announced the appointment of Frank Bernhardt as their new head coach today, just days after they “rested” South Korean boss Choi Moon-sik.

The German’s appointment came ahead of tonight’s “Battle of the Reds” against Selangor FC in round eight of the Super League at the MBPJ Stadium, Kelana Jaya.

Despite the internal crisis faced by the Red Warriors, Selangor head coach Tan Cheng Hoe expects nothing less from his opponent but a fair rivalry.

He told The Vibes that his squad will keep focusing on their preparation and remain confident of claiming three more points and a third-straight win.

“We will not take the situation for granted. We must respect the opponent, even though they are facing some problems with the team.

“They just appointed a new head coach. Hopefully, our team will just keep focusing on our preparation for the game against Kelantan.

“We know that Frank Bernhardt is quite experienced in Malaysia. I am sure he already has some strategies and tactics lined up for his team.

“We hope our team will stay confident and expect a tough game tonight,” said the Red Giants’ gaffer.

Tonight’s match will see Selangor locking horns with Kelantan for the 99th time, the former having won 45 matches and drawn 32.

Selangor have won three of their previous five meetings while Kelantan recorded one victory, the other match ending in a draw.

Selangor are in fine form, bouncing back through their wins in two consecutive matches over Kuala Lumpur City FC and Negeri Sembilan FC after a defeat to Johor Darul Ta’zim FC.

If Selangor win tonight, they will remain in the league’s top two, but a Kelantan win will lift them out of the bottom group of the league table. – The Vibes, April 9, 2023
