FORMER Sabah DAP Chairman Datuk Frankie Poon Ming Fung, who announced his departure from the party in October, is expected to join the KDM as early as tomorrow.

The incumbent of the Tanjung Papat State Assembly (DUN) seat is expected to submit his membership form to join KDM at the KDM Machinery Launching Ceremony scheduled to be held at the Tiong Hua Secondary School hall, tomorrow.

Based on an invitation letter distributed to the media today, the ceremony will be attended by top KDM leaders, namely its Acting President, Priscella Peter and Deputy President, Datuk Wetrom Bahanda.

Last month, Frankie announced his departure from DAP, after his decision to defend his seat in the 17th State Election (PRN17).

His action was said to be due to dissatisfaction with the party leadership, which he claimed ignored veteran leaders, in addition to allegations that there were efforts to replace leaders in the area he represented.

Rumours that the former Sabah Health and People's Wellbeing Minister would join KDM began earlier this week.

Last Tuesday, Wetrom at a meeting with the Chinese community and associations hinted that the party would contest one or two state seats in the Sandakan parliamentary constituency.

In the 14th general election, Frankie won the Tanjung Papat state seat with a majority of 1,816 votes, defeating former Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Raymond Tan Shu Kiah who contested on a Barisan Nasional (BN) ticket. - November 8, 2025
