PERMATANG PAUH – All shopping malls should do their best to allocate parking spots for delivery riders who often park their motorcycles along the roads to do their collection.

Nurul Izzah Anwar said riders often entered malls up to 10 times a day to collect food from the various outlets and parking charges could add up to a huge amount.

“To avoid this, they often park along the roads and this not only causes traffic congestion but also causes these riders to be issued with summonses.

“These summonses take a huge chunk out of their earnings and something must be done to overcome this problem,” she said in a statement.

She said gig workers play a crucial role in our economy and most of the delivery riders are not from well-to-do families.

The PKR vice-president said a group of delivery riders recently met her over their parking woes at the Sunway Carnival Mall in Permatang Pauh.

“Following the meeting, we held discussions with the management of the mall and came to a compromise.

“The mall has since agreed to provide parking spots for these riders and I would like to urge other managements to follow suit,” she added.

The prime minister’s daughter said she stepped in to assist the riders as they were desperate and needed urgent help.

“I wish to thank the management of the mall and wish all riders the best,” she added. – The Vibes, July 20, 2023
