Duo believed to have been fired on by smugglers

KANGAR – Two General Operations Force (GOF) personnel on duty at the Malaysia-Thailand border post in Padang Besar here were shot by men believed to be smugglers in the early hours yesterday.

In the 3.10am incident, Corporal Baharuddin Ramli, 54, died at the scene after being shot twice in the chest and abdomen, while Corporal Norihan Tari, 39, was shot in the right abdomen.

It is believed the smugglers were attempting to bring out a cache of ketum leaves and cough mixtures at Post Nine near the Malaysia-Thailand border.
