RIO DE JANEIRO – The Brazilian government will acquire 100 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine developed by China’s Sinovac this year, said Health Minister Eduardo Pazuello, specifying that the jab will be produced by his country’s Butantan Institute.
“Today (Thursday), we signed a contract with Butantan Institute to purchase 46 million doses by April, and 54 million doses throughout the year,” he told a press conference.
He gave an assurance that all Sinovac vaccines already with Butantan Institute will be used under the national immunisation programme, and distributed on an equitable and proportional basis among all states.
Brazil also expects to receive 254 million doses of the vaccine developed by AstraZeneca-Oxford University, he said.
These doses will be produced by the Rio de Janeiro-based Oswaldo Cruz Foundation. – Bernama, January 8, 2021
