SATUN – Thai authorities have seized 1.2 tonnes of heroin and methamphetamine, worth about a billion baht (RM131.6 million), found in a mangrove forest here, near the border with Malaysia.
In a statement, the Maritime Enforcement Command Centre Region 3 said a joint patrol led to the discovery of the narcotics, which were wrapped in newspaper and stored in 39 plastic crates, in Khlong Tammalang, Muang district, on Thursday.
“Initial investigations showed that the drugs were dropped off by traffickers. They were meant to be picked up by another group for delivery.
“The drugs were destined for a third country.”
Local media reported that the seizure is one of the largest in Satun province, with the drugs believed to be for delivery to Malaysia. – Bernama, June 19, 2021
