SINGAPORE – The Singapore Health Ministry reported 2,236 new coronavirus cases yesterday, the highest daily tally since the beginning of the pandemic, reported Reuters.
A recent rise in infections after the relaxation of some Covid-19 measures has prompted the republic to pause further reopening.
More than 80% of its population has been vaccinated against the virus.
From this week, Singapore will tighten some Covid-19 restrictions, such as limiting social gatherings to two people and making work from home a default.
Meanwhile, Bernama said the ministry registered another five virus deaths, taking total fatalities this month to 30.
All five were elderly Singaporeans.
The latest figures bring the country’s cumulative caseload to 91,775, of which 15,469 are active, with 85 deaths. – Agencies, September 29, 2021
