KUALA LUMPUR – Saudi Arabia’s Haj and Umrah Ministry has announced an increase in the capacity of umrah pilgrims to 100,000 daily starting today.

The number of obligatory prayer congregants has also been upped to 60,000.

The ministry tweeted that it is coordinating with the relevant agencies on implementing a strategic plan focused on health and safety in preparation to receive 3.5 million pilgrims and visitors a month.

In early September, it said a total of 10 million pilgrims performed the umrah under the “safe umrah model” launched on October 4 last year.

The ministry added that more than 12,000 visas have been issued by the Saudi government to pilgrims from various countries since August 10. – Bernama, October 1, 2021
