NEW DELHI – India’s Covid-19 tally hit 9,050,597 today, with 46,232 cases registered in the last 24 hours, reported the Xinhua news agency, citing Health Ministry data.

The death toll now stands at 132,726, with 564 new fatalities.

There are still 439,747 active cases in the country, while 8,478,124 recoveries have been registered so far.

The government has stepped up virus screening nationwide, and as of yesterday, a total of 130,657,808 tests have been conducted, of which 1,066,022 were carried out yesterday itself.

Covaxin, the vaccine being developed by Indian biotechnology company Bharat Biotech International Ltd, entered the third phase of trials yesterday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a meeting the same day to review the nation’s vaccine strategy. – Bernama, November 21, 2020
