BEIJING – A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman today declared a diplomat of the consulate-general of Canada in Shanghai persona non grata, reported Xinhua.

The move to expel consul Jennifer Lynn was a “reciprocal countermeasure” to Canada’s earlier expulsion of a diplomat at China’s consulate-general in Toronto, the spokesman said.

China strongly condemns and firmly opposes Canada’s “unscrupulous” move to expel its diplomat Zhao Wei, and Lynn must leave China before May 13, the spokesman said.

The spokesman added that China has reserved its right to further react to Canada’s action against Zhao. – Bernama, May 9, 2023
