KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) and home-grown global player the Dviation Group of Companies are collaborating to establish Southeast Asia’s first maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility that can handle the full life cycle of aviation assets at Subang airport.
MAHB said the facility will offer end-to-end aftermarket services, including MRO, aircraft teardown, aircraft material recycling and parts trading.
“The new facility will further strengthen Subang airport’s position as a preferred MRO hub in the region, as it has the potential to capture a significant part of the US$3.635 trillion (RM15.06 trillion) aftermarket services market share in the Asia Pacific in the next 20 years for Malaysia,” said the airport operator in a statement today.
Randhill Singh, the MAHB head of KLIA Aeropolis, said based on the latest report by Boeing, the world’s largest aerospace and aviation company, the Asia-Pacific region is expecting the highest aircraft deliveries at 41% of the global total over the next two decades, translating into about 17,500 deliveries that include narrow-body and wide-body planes, regional jets and freighters.
“The aftermarket services market size for Asia Pacific, on the other hand, is expected to capture the largest market share at 40% of the global total. We are seizing the opportunity and fully committed to growing the aerospace and aviation industry for the country.”
When an aircraft retires after around 20 to 25 years in service, he said, an estimated 85% to 95% of its weight can be recycled to ensure proper disposal.
“We can also take advantage of the many high-quality components it is made of.
“This multidisciplinary process, which involves different aspects of the economics of aircraft and improvements to environmental performance, presents new opportunities here in Malaysia.”
Randhill said MAHB’s Subang Airport Regeneration initiative will ensure the presence of a holistic and future-fit ecosystem to serve the Asia-Pacific market.
The company also aims to elevate Malaysia’s competitive landscape by building partnerships with internationally recognised local-based aviation solutions providers.
The airport operator said the collaboration is built on the foundation of Dviation’s expertise in technical training and industry manpower solutions, as well as other related, approved training.
It said this presents opportunities to strengthen the aerospace ecosystem, resulting in increased skilled labour in the sector. – Bernama, May 25, 2021
