MALAYSIA Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) confirmed there were storm-related water leakages affecting several parts of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 this afternoon.
It said in a statement today said its engineering, operations, and safety teams have been mobilised to manage the situation, with passenger safety, containment efforts, and the protection of electrical systems being prioritised.
“We are in close communication with our airline partners to minimise any operational impact,” it said as reported by Bernama.
MAHB added that extreme weather is expected to continue until 6pm and that enhanced monitoring measures are in place.
Earlier, a 26-second video clip showing a water leakage incident, believed to have occurred at the terminal’s departure hall, made its rounds on social media platforms.
Meanwhile, MAHB, in a separate statement, said a technical assessment will be done to determine the root cause of the leakages, including an investigation into contributing factors from today's extreme weather.
It said necessary corrective and preventive measures will be implemented to strengthen KLIA’s resilience against similar events, should this recur.
MAHB had also provided details on today's incident, which it said started at 4.14 pm, following an episode of exceptionally heavy rainfall in the area, which coincided with an Aerodrome Warning issued by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
It noted that check-in counters K and L were affected and later reopened after the water cleared within one-and-a-half hours and critical systems checks deemed the areas were safe for use.
"Core airport functions, including passenger processing, terminal movement and key systems such as the Aerotrain and the baggage handling system were not affected.
"Technical checks are still ongoing and some support functions remain under close monitoring," it added. - November 14, 2025
