PUTRAJAYA – Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today launched the MalaysiaBiz portal, a one-stop centre to facilitate business registrations and licensing applications online.
The portal, developed by the Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (Mampu), is aimed at creating a trade-friendly environment to encourage competitiveness in the country and spur the growth of the domestic economy, he said in a speech at the launch that was posted on Mampu’s Facebook page.
“I call on small and medium entrepreneurs to take advantage of this opportunity. Do register and apply for your business licence through the MalaysiaBiz portal.
“Let us ensure the success of this initiative, and may our endeavours and efforts be eased.”
He said the government understands the importance of digital platforms in business, and the contributions of small and medium enterprises to Malaysia’s income.
He said SMEs contributed 38.9% to gross domestic product last year, up from the 38.3% in 2018, and are targeting a 45% contribution by 2025 and 50% by 2030.
Muhyiddin said Budget 2021 lists business continuity among its three main goals.
He said special attention is given to SMEs through funding assistance, training, digital equipment and grants, including a RM1 billion allocation to boost digitalisation activities until December 31, 2023.
RM150 million is allocated for training and sales assistance programmes, as well as a digital equipment provision to 100,000 local entrepreneurs under the Micro and SME e-Commerce campaign.
RM4.6 billion is set aside to empower Bumiputera entrepreneurs and provide special micro-credit financing through Tekun Nasional, Majlis Amanah Rakyat and AgroBank.
The MalaysiaBiz portal, which integrates 17 government agencies, is the result of a collaboration between Mampu, the Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Ministry, and SME Corporation Malaysia. – Bernama, December 7, 2020
