ALTHOUGH they have yet to release a song, the emergence of the latest girl group The Gadys has attracted the attention of the public.

Social media users criticised their singing as ‘indecent’ while comparing it to existing bands.

Undeterred, The Gadys, which consists of Nelissa Nizam, Aznie Azmi, Ayunie Rizal and Faa Zaini, said the reactions from listeners were an inspiration to improve on their shortcomings.

"Criticism is normal and we take it as motivation to improve where necessary. We are also still learning and taking vocal classes to make sure we sing with the right technique. In the session, we were also taught how to adapt our voices to the song,” Nelissa told Getaran recently.

Asked if the group was discouraged because they were often compared to the current famous girl group, Dolla, they smiled.

“Honestly, we don't feel like competing with any girl group. Yet if they compare, we appreciate it and feel it’s a compliment because our emergence is already being noticed.

"For us, each girl group has their uniqueness – giving more options to listeners. They can choose to listen to any group they want,” said The Gadys, who are also fans of girl bands such as Feminin and Elite.

According to them, The Gadys has their own vibe, as each is united by friendship. Apart from singing, the foursome has also acted in TV and theatre.

"The Gadys are a colourful group without a sexy image. We will usually wear the same colour or make sure the pattern of our outfits is similar, as in our videos on social media.

The Gadys are expected to release their debut single in early August. – The Vibes, May 26, 2022
