PRIME Video has released the official trailer for Samaritan which features three-time Oscar nominee Sylvester Stallone playing a burnt-out superhero in hiding.

The trailer features Stallone as Mr Smith who works in a garbage processing facility in the fictional city of Granite City when a teenage boy discovers the truth he has been hiding for 20 years.

Sam, played by Euphoria breakout star Javon ‘Wanna’ Walton, attempts to befriend Mr Smith after witnessing a fight to confirm his suspicions that Mr Smith is in fact the superhuman vigilante ‘Samaritan’ that mysteriously died in a fire.

Directed by Julius Avery based on a screenplay by Bragi F. Schut (Escape Room), the movie also stars Pilou Asbaek (Game of Thrones), Moises Arias, Dascha Polanco, and Martin Starr (Spider-Man: Far from Home).

Originally slated for a theatrical release in 2020, production on the movie was delayed due to the pandemic. The movie will no longer receive a theatrical release and is instead being released exclusively on Amazon Prime on August 26.

This is not Stallone’s first rodeo in the superhero genre, having plenty of experience throughout his career. He played the titular character in 1995’s Judge Dredd and more recently characters like King Shark in The Suicide Squad and a supporting role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

In ‘Samaritan’ he plays a superhuman with enhanced agility, strength, and regenerative healing abilities. – The Vibes, July 28, 2022
