THE Ministry of Education (MOE) has stressed that action against any complaint involving sexual misconduct in educational institutions must be taken immediately without waiting for a case to go viral on social media.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said that institutions under the ministry must be a safe space for all, especially students who need protection.

She said that action should not only be taken after a case goes viral, but rather every complaint must be given attention as soon as it is received.

"I think it is not right to say that action is taken only after it goes viral. Actually, as soon as the case is reported, we take action.

"When a child complains of being sexually harassed, parents must take action, and teachers must also. And it must be reported to the authorities, and be investigated in its entirety,” she said.

She said this when commenting on the viral issue involving a teacher linked to an alleged sexual misconduct case with a 16-year-old student at a school in Sarawak. – June 13, 2026
