INCONSISTENT enforcement of acts and weaknesses in procurement procedures are among the factors contributing to the 568 corruption-related arrests involving public servants in 2024.
Public Service Department (PSD) director-general Tan Sri Dr Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz said this figure has sparked concerns regarding the level of integrity within the nation's public administration.
At the same time, he noted the persistence of a "backdoor" mentality and "Little Napoleon" practices aimed at personal gains.
"MACC statistics on corruption arrests involving public servants show a worrying upward trend, with the highest number of cases—568—recorded in 2024," he said today.
Wan Ahmad Dahlan said the government needs to streamline organisational governance in its effort to address the worrying issue of corruption within the public service.
He added that this aligns with the MADANI government's emphasis on strengthening governance.
"In reality, this situation is deeply concerning, as the MADANI government has emphasised the need to further strengthen governance within our organisations.
"God willing, if these sustained efforts are implemented, I am fully confident that we can reduce issues related to corruption over time.
"However, there must be a clear resolve to reject such practices," he said.
At the same time, he urged all civil servants to strictly adhere to the established governance standards. – October 8, 2026
