Bond producers add fuel to Tom Holland rumours (maybe?)

Coinciding with the Spider-Man star’s recent exit from social media, these claims are like red meat to the piranha pool of the internet

JUST about every British actor of at least reasonable success gets thrown into James Bond rumours whenever there’s a lull in the newscycle. Have the accent and can wear a suit? Congratulations, you’re it. Bonus points if you’re holding a gun.

This time it’s Spider-Man himself – at least guy to wear the red and blue tights in live action – Tom Holland finds himself in the rumour mill.

These reports have been simmering for awhile, especially as the dust settles from Daniel Craig’s final performance as Commander Bond in last year’s No Time to Die.

The new word on the street is that the producers want to cast an actor who is under 5’10 (178cm) and who looks younger than previous Bonds, which would seemingly point to the relatively diminutive Holland, and ruling out other favourites like Idris Elba, Tom Hardy and Bridgerton’s Regé-Jean Page (though it’s an open secret that Hardy is on the short side).

As predicted, some folks on social media are frothing at the mouth with news that Holland, who has up to this point spent his career mostly playing young pipsqueaks, might play the recently gruff and dapper British assassin.

With a new film in the storied film franchise – dating back to 1962’s Dr No starring the iconic Sean Connery – years away, don’t expect any official word from the Broccolis (yes, the owners of the James Bond IP share the name with everyone’s favourite cruciferous veggies).

The only thing to wonder is who’s the next British actor will be the focus of rumours? Maybe it will be a woman next time. It’ll be fine, the internet responds well to unfounded speculation. – The Vibes, August 17, 2022
