A MALAY woman married to a Chinese man recently drew mixed reactions on social media after she posted a TikTok video of her accompanying her husband's family to clean the grave of her later mother-in-law during the recent Qingming festival.

Ain posted her visit to Nirvana in Kuala Lumpur with her husband, father-in-law and brother-in-law on the third day of Qingming.

She said her mother-in-law's grave was in the Gate 3 area and before that the family went to the hall to perform a religious ceremony.

Ain said she and her husband, a Muslim convert did not participate in this.

She also showed the scenery, waterfalls and other facilities at Nirvana, including the Pet Cemetery.

Netizens explained in the comments sections that the turtle-shaped statues symbolised longevity and the protection of souls.

"My husband told me that the total cost of his mother's grave was about RM20,000 including the coffin and other services, which is relatively cheap compared to others in Nirvana," she said.

The video has since attracted numerous comments with some saying it demonstrates religious tolerance and understanding in Malaysia's multi-racial context.
