WASIS, an independent studio jewellery brand, has released their latest contemporary brass jewellery collection, TERRA-NU.

TERRA-NU is a wordplay, of Terra which means ‘try’ in Terengganu-speak so Terra-Nu loosely translates as “try something new”. It  is also one of the many ways the locals call Terengganu, a land blessed with the beauty of nature and expressions of culture. This collection carries impressions of body armour with playful  references to childhood objects.

According to Wasis, "We are all warriors in our own special way, defending our self-boundaries and our right to just be. Overcoming traumas and challenges to not only come out stronger, but thrive. We have a happy place that we go back to – a place of innocence – in case of emergency. Managing uncomfortable truths requires healing, empathy, and compassion, as what appears on the surface is not to scale to what is underneath.

"We get back up and march forward with support from our close contacts; it could be family, friends, or even a stranger we encounter through serendipity. Each piece in this collection is designed to inspire self-expression and boldness yet carry the story of the wearer, in confidence."

Wasis Studio was founded by Kina Hassan, a Terengganu-born and raised artist maker of contemporary  jewellery & objects. She is informally trained by jewellery artists in Bangkok and Istanbul where she lived for a few years.

She was a beneficiary of the Cendana’s Craft Industry Choice 2020 in Metalwork that supported the making of this collection. – The Vibes, February 26, 2022
