Experience the beauty of Latin America without travelling

KUALA LUMPUR – The Latin American Festival returns for its 13th time this month, allowing Malaysians to experience the colourful culture of Latin American and Caribbean nations.

The festival will be open on September 25 from 11am to 6pm at the Commons KL (previously known as BB Park), Jalan Bukit Bintang.

The Latin American Festival is hosted by the Embassies of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, and Peru. They aim to celebrate the Grulac nations’ friendship and cultural exchange with Malaysia following the past few years with the pandemic.

Each nation will feature a booth offering their local cuisines, handicrafts, and tourism information, with an emphasis on their respective cultural diversities. Each country will also demonstrate its cultural performances.

These include the Argentinian tango, Brazilian capoeira, Mexican and Chilean folkloric dances, as well as musical pieces from Colombia, Cuba, and Peru.

The food showcase includes a myriad of cuisines such as quesadillas and tacos from Mexico. Brazil will offer its ethnic pao de queijo and coxinha. People visiting can also get the chance to try out empanadas, croquetas, and shrimp cause from Argentina, Cuba, and Peru, respectively.

On top of all the excitement, the festival will also arrange a lucky draw, with the first prize being an appealing round-trip economy flight to one of the following destinations: Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, or Mexico.

Sponsored by Turkish Airlines, winners can use their flight tickets next year. Other prizes include laptops, electric scooters, speakers, and more.

The lucky draw is aimed at raising donations for charity, where the proceeds from the festival will go to Malaysian Foundation for the Blind. The funds will help the organisation buy the Perkins Brailler typewriter to produce braille writing in schools or at home.

The festival collaborates with Plaza Low Yat, Federal Hotels International, and the Latin Women’s Association of Malaysia, and is supported by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall. – The Vibes, September 22, 2022
