PENANG-born and internationally renowned fashion designer Datuk Jimmy Choo was recently seen out and about in London, promoting the locally-made songket fabric.

The 73-year-old was wearing a blazer made from the material while out with his mentee, Peony Sin – who reportedly designed the outfit.

Choo shared that fact in a clip – which has since gone viral – posted by World Microphone London on Instagram.

"Sown by hand with gold and silver threads,” Choo says in the video.

Sin can also be seen in the video wearing a cheongsam made from songket.

Choo was first seen with a songket blazer during the London Fashion Week, back in September.

"This is an anticipated show and I want to put on a specially designed songket jacket for the world to see," he told The Star at the time.

Dubbed 'Ratu Kain' in Malay weaving, songket belongs to the brocade family of textiles. It can be hand-woven in silk or cotton, and intricately patterned with gold or silver threads. – The Vibes, November 4, 2022
